    A dumb broad question

This girl who I dated a few times and "helped out" once wants to go see a famous tourist site 3+ hours drive away. So I offer to take her, and tell her she can bring her girlfriend too.

When the time comes to all get in the car, she insists on sitting in the backseat with her girlfriend.

If this was a 10 minute or even 30 minute ride I would say it's a little bit fucked but so what. But a 3+ hour ride?! This isn't a taxi.

I told her to at least try sitting in the front seat for the start of the ride (with the passenger seat leaned back so she can still chat with her gf), or do half up in front and half in the backseat.

She said "no!", so I said, "no!", we're not going for a 3+ hour ride, but we can go to another tourist site nearby. We ended up going nowhere.

What would you have done (as the driver or the girl)?

I would have given you my iciest glare and never spoken to you again. If you can't handle anything illogical or irritating, you're dating the wrong sex.

Out of courtesy for the driver, one of them should have sat up front.

That's just weird...my advice is to get new friends.
