    case mods

im modding an old case i have laying around. i sanded it down today and im gonna spray it black tomorrow.

one thing i was thinking about is starting it with a key instead of a power button, is there an easy way to do this?

    thanks

I don't know about "easy" but it shouldn't be any big trick to bust out some electrical wire and rig up a lock to make contact when turned. That will only work properly with an old case/power supply/motherboard, though, because so many of them have electronic switches, now.

Man, I'll tell you what would be 10x sweeter, though. Rip apart an old VCR or something and start that biatch with a remote.

OK, I am going to do that.

that sounds cool let me know how it works out for you. i have a programmable remote watch which i could use for it.

you know where i can go to learn a little more about electronics? books or whatever

          Just start taking things apart

I'm sure you could also do a Google search for things like "start my PC with a remote control", "case mod tutorial", etc.

I think most of the new BIOS's have features for what you want. A friend of mine starts his keyboard by pressing his space bar. All i know is that it's a simple option in his BIOS. I'll find out more from him later tonight when i see him.

Actually, as I was sitting here giving serious thought to the remote control idea, I came to the same realization. My computer is never off, therefore there is no need to turn it back on. Pretty much the only time my computer is off is when I am adding or removing hardware.
