Um... The United Kingdom, England, and Great Britain aren't the same thing...
Great Britain is an island. The largest of the British Isles, you know, those ones to the northwest of Europe. It's the one with England, Scotland, and Wales on it.
The United Kingdom is, fully, The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. It consists of the three countries on Great Britain, plus part of the island of Ireland (another British Isle). Of course, "Great Britain" does also make some sense as an abbreviation of the full name.
And, remember, England is just one country in the UK... Scotland and Wales aren't part of England. They are countries in their own right, as much as England is... all three are now just parts of the UK the way each state is part of the USA.
