    hosting advice

    Aloha,

    I need some hosting advice.

I'm currently using elevated hosting. The things I like about them:

    1. Great customer service, very fast replies to emails and very helpful
    2. Very good stats and very good uptime
    3. Low price - $7.99/mo for base plan at 50MB storage and 2GB bandwidth

This is all I have needed so far (yes I am small fry; I'm not even using half my bandwidth yet). I'm finally going to break down and build some avs sites though, and I want to use .htaccess to prevent hotlinking.

EH doesn't offer .htaccess (Windows/IIS) but has similar product for $20 setup and extra $10/month, so this would increase my monthly cost. Also I will prolly start exceeding 2GB/mo BW and the overage charge is $4.00/GB unless I bump up my plan.

So should I stay with EH or should I move to a host that offers .htaccess? If you think I should move, who would you recommend, keeping in mind the three things I like about EH above.

I'm getting great service from thumbnailgalleryhost.com.

2GB won't last long once you start getting a little traffic.

Sounds like they're using that NT program for password management(cant remember the name).I set that up for a client before and it's a piece of shit. It's rediculous to charge more money for password access. BTW, why don't you get your site on Linux or FreeBSD? Apache rocks and that's where .htaccess files are from anyhow and you can get free scripts to manage passwords.
I can program better than you
