Encoding Question

I want to convert mpg or mpg2 format to AVI's so that I can use splicer.exe to make smaller clips out of larger ones. Adobe Premiere works all right but tends to dupe the audio in places...NOT exactly high quality there. Vegas Video is not supported on XP, which is my current platform, any suggestions for either: making larger AVI files (VidCap 32 will only let me run 30 minutes at a time, some of my sex scenes are longer than that) or converting these mpgs/mpg2's into AVI's without degrading the audio?

and do you plan to convert them back to mpegs?

here is the problem you really shouldn't encode anything more then 3x... can you do a fresh capture and cut that one?

No, here is what I want to get done (but apparently, my software limitations are not allowing me to do it):
I have tapes of me doing shows/having sex, etc...I want to convert them in to AVI's so I can use a splicer to encode them in to both high b/w wmv's and lo b/w wmv's at once. The splicer will ONLY import AVI's...VidCap 32 limits an AVI playtime (when capturing) to 30 minutes. These scenes are LONGER than 30 minutes. I USED to just try to cut things in to 30 minute blocks, but I hate sacrificing some of the scene or (worse yet) cutting a good scene in to 2 scenes, making my members have to pause to start the next clip.

I am looking for a way to make LONG AVI's...I have a Sony Vaio which comes with a Giga recorder that will let me make clips as long as I like...in mpg1 or mog2 format only. ARGH!
