    Overclocking my computer?

Okay, so I have my P4 3GHz, and it's running too slow with all my programs open. I want to overclock it.. but I don't know anything about overclocking..

I know there are applications out there that does all the job, without too much knowledge.. any one can recommend me a good soft please?

    Thanks

Never overclock if you don't know what you're doing... especially with softwares (?) If you're serious about overclocking, you need to make sure to maximize cooling, preferably with a water cooling system (eg.: peltier).

Overclocking was worth it years ago, but I'm not sure it is nowadays... unless you do it hardcore.

You'll probably gain more from adding some RAM or getting a faster HD.

From what he said he's talking about processor bottleneck.

if you know nothing about overclocking don't even try it.. and it's not just your cpu.. having ram that is better at overclocking than generic crap would make a huge difference.. Nevertheless, don't do it. the speed difference is not worth fucking your pc. Just upgrade to a Pentuimd D 930 3ghz (LGA775) you will need a new motherboard though since I'm assuming that you have a S478 cpu.

I have a P4 3.0ghz with hyperthreading (s478) with 1.2gigs of ram and the only time it gets slow is if I really over do it.. I have a Pentium D 3ghz with 2gigs of ram on the way.. Also. is your ram PC3200 or it it lower? 2600? etc..

Running slow with all programs open sounds like it could be a RAM issue as well, especially since a P4 with 3Ghz isn't all that bad

Bullshit, I've overclocked all my pcs and never had any issues... as long as you don't try to run 3Ghz pc at 4Ghz you'll be fine... proably start at +5%, and then up the clock rate by 1% untill it starts being unstable, and then back off from that 2% or more, whatever you are comfortable with...

5% is ok, but depending on the ram used the pc might run unstable since if you want proper overclocking you must overclock the ram also and some ram just sucks shit when overclocked.

I always build my own pcs, I try to pick pretty decent parts, so maybe that's why I never had any issues...

so you're like me.. I will not buy a prebuilt pc.. I have to pick the parts and build it myself otherwise it's just crap.

Okay. I have a Asus P2GD5 Deluxe board, with a P4 3GHz LGA775. I've bought another 1GB or DDR2 ram, that is fast enough. I'll buy a new fan for the CPU too.

My question is : how to manage the overclocking. I know a bit of computer electronic. I know I need to downgrade the voltage to the CPU to let more current in .. but what I don't know is HOW to do it.. that's why I'm asking for software..

just do it through the bios.. research what you want to do (on the net) then reboot your pc, hit DEL at the POST screen and do all the shit in the bios

You don't want to overclock your pc, it's something those 16 year old gamers do. I don't see the point doing this just for running your aps. If you want to do it ask around on game forums. You will need better cooling, best is water cooling. You will also need special cooling for to protect your ram. You will need a heavy power supply unit and so on. Just buy an extra pc and network them or something. It's risky and you may loose all your stuff. Again it's stupid.
