    Notebook Hard drive crashed

Bios won't even recognize it. I need a replacement. Where should I look for something in a cheap drive say about 20gb. This will be a laptop for for someone just to use for email and browsing. It is a Dell Latitude X200. Can I just buy any 2.5" notebook drive and put it in?

Considering your HD just crashed are you sure you should be seeking something "cheap" ?

If it's a recent model laptop then there shouldn't be any probs with replacing the HD, but you may run into some hurdles with reinstalling everything. Did your lappy come with a restore disk? I swapped out a 40Gb HD (with everything preinstalled) for a 100Gb new drive and the restore disk fixed everything up.

You may also want to buy a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter to see if you can read the drive's contents in a desktop PC.

I don't need anything huge or fast for storage is what I meant by cheap. Just a browsing/email system at this point for a disabled relative. Just wondered if I could order any new 2.5" hard drive, use the restore CD and take it to them.

Nothing was on the disk that wasn't already backed up, so I don't need to try and get anything off it.
