Other than being a little slow at times, which I expect from a busy bbs
I can't complain about GFY. MS or not it works. While I personally
wouldn't use IIS for anything, zealots bitching and moaning that
linux/bsd/ect is the only site, and if you don't run it you suck,
don't do much good to help linux/bsd, rather, they sound more like the
"I'm holier than thou" crap you'd expect from any tele-region person.

Oh for pete's sake. I might be a rabid linux fan, but this site has worked like a charm, and I care about results, not what is on the backend.

If you don't like how gfy is run, buy them a brand new linux box with every distro so they can spend hours arguing over which one is their favorite.

I haven't been here for long, but i love gfy. Its got personality, and the fact it runs on MS doesn'tt bother me in the slightest. I might be bold in saying this, but don't knock a good site.

          Who gives a shit?
GFY is almost as fast as most of the much smaller forums i go to. I don't see it as a problem.

No, they just need to tune the PHP configuration file ;)
And Microsoft is not so bad as a server, but I think FreeBSD is the best for a web server

                peace,

IMO, depends on what you're serving. Tons of static pages, bsd for sure.
When you start getting into the dynamic, database driven stuff,
linux from what I've seen is better. (better VM layer, memory management, ect.... faster)
ideally: bsd webserver + linux db server behind a httpd accelerator (like squid)
Just my opinion though, any non-high-traffic sites just apache+whatever os you have will suffice.
486sx25 will easily handle 30k visits/day or more.
