Classical music

I was just wondering if the people in here also spend time listening to classical music when they're not busy watching midget bukkake and the likes.

My own personal favorites would be:

Bizet - Carmen
Bach - Mattheus Passion (saw this one live, pretty impressive)
Faure - Elegie in C-minor

And a whole bunch of other ones I can't come up with right now.

I love Aria's though, going to buy me some of that soon.

I actually spend a lot of time listening to classical. It's really soothing to work to. I have my stereo set to a NPR station that plays classical all day long. Good stuff!

Collecting classical recordings is a hobby of mine. A few favorites:

Verdi - Requiem mass, Ave Maria from Otello.
Saint Saens - Organ Symphony
Tchaikovsky - Symph. 4, 5, & 6.
Respighi - Pines of Rome
Mahler - Symph. 2, 4, 5, 6, 8 & 9 + Das Knaben Wunderhorn
Allegri - Miserere
Beethoven - 3rd & 9th symphonies, Missa Solemnis, Emperor Concerto
Mozart - Requiem mass
Rachmaninoff - Liturgy of St. John Crysostom, 2 & 3rd piano concerto's, Isle of the Dead.

Faure - Requiem, Pavane, Elgy.

I find Mozart and Verdi very uplifting. Unfortunately my hubby thinks its too heavy to work to. I listen when I can.

Not that much of a classic fan, but I tend to listen to a little bit of everything... Here's my favorites...

Felix Mendelssohn - Violin Concerto in E Minor
Albinoni - Adagio for Strings in G Minor
Most of the bethoven's symphony.... (4, 5 especially)
maybe some more, but nothing that comes to mind now...

I like some classical music especially Wagner, Mozart, Beethovan , Bach, Chopin & Vivaldi. I had a bunch of classical cassettes but I wore a few of them out & the others broke.

I listen to classical quite a bit these days... all the standards (Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Mozart, Vivaldi, Ravel, Bach, etc.). My current favorite is The Marriage of Figaro, but that could change at any time

It was the Duke (Ellington) who said, when asked what kind of music he liked, "There are only two kinds of music: good and bad." (that may be a paraphrase, but I have the gist right)

I like all kinds of music. When it comes to classical, I love Bach instrumental music (not much of a choral fan under any circumstance), Ravel & Debussy, Hindemith, Bartok, and Respighi.

Did you ever think how much a lot of the dramatic soundtrack music in the movies owes to Ravel and Debussy?

That's strange... Ive always thought Mozart's music sounded really "gay". Lots of staccato, lots of light happy melodies.

Vivaldi -- Concerto for Guitar
Delibes -- Flower Song

Outside of salsa/merengue music, Classical seems to help me become very productive when working.

Not much...

Aside from the traditional classics like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, Brahms, Mahler, and Liszt... try some of the other greats..

Gustav Holst,
Aaron Copland,
Iannis Xenakis,
Leonard Slatkin,
John Adams,
John Cage,
Krzysztof Penderecki,
and of course Arnold Schoenberg

A lot of those older ones are pretty much reserved for period pieces, and many of the others have written pieces which are inserted into movies. I'm referring to the STYLE of the music used in most dramatic movies with original soundtracks.
