    forum software?

Is there a forum software able to run local on my pc?

i want to use it as a sort of journal. i do not want it uploaded anywhere, just permanantly on my pc.

i know i can use any number of other programs, just wondering if anyone knows of a forum software where i can create topics and categories and such

    thanks all.

Install Apache, PHP, MySQL on your desktop and you can run almost any script in your browser. Not the simplest solution, but if you were set on using forum software this would work well. Not happy with existing journal software ?

SIG TOO SMALL! Maximum 1200x600 button and no more than 30 text lines of ALL SIZES and COLORS. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 6240x4800 instead of a 1024x800.

If you decide to go that route, maybe this will help

I think some existing Journal software might have the features you're looking for, and be easier than going the full apache+php route. Organizer software, outline software, can be good with organizing thoughts and ideas.

              how about this question

if i use an online forum, is there a way to back it up onto my pc?

I remember seeing programs that just rip websites and create static pages on your pc of its contents, i guess i can use something like this ... and just set it up on task manager so it is effortless

i mean id like to someday look back at this stuff, and it wont help if the website goes down and i lose all my data.

or if i fall over and die tomorrow, will my wife/kids know how to open my journal and see what was really in my mind?

BTW the reason this came up is because for nearly a year i have had a journal on a website forum, and for 2 days i have been unable to access the site. this made me wonder how i would feel to learn all this info is now lost

This is what I had in mind as a thought organizer for example. This one's not free, however.

Journal/diary software might be more date-focused, rather than allow you to just write thoughts in topics and categories. That's why I'm thinking maybe some outlining or organizer software would work better for you.

But this looks free, and useful with some categories.

windows has a function, "make available offline"

will this function basically back up the page? Would i be able to burn that backup onto a disc?

Who will own the forum ? If it's yours, you can backup the database pretty easily.
