    Donations needed please....

There is much banter on GFY about BMW's, snow mobiles, bling bling and the like.....

Seeing as many of you are cashed up entrepeneurs or CEO's what steps are you taking to ensure that you are a good corporate citizen or at least giving a little back...maybe you are even building a legacy!

This is not an open criticism of wealth or those that have it, more like a chance for you to give yourself a pat on the back for doing a good thing. If you don't feel like naming your charity just offer a bump.

Many charities or donations are due to our personal situations - eg I donate to a Paraplegic research charity as my brother has been paralysed for 20 years.

    What's your charity?

I donate 10 euros a month for animals... it don't think it'll ever be used for that but okay.

I've always been big on volunteer work ... from Habitat for Humanity to donating money. I prefer to donate my time, so what I am currently doing is spending some time on Mondays (not today, too busy) and feeding the homeless at a church in downtown Denver.

If I do decide to donate money, I would give it to EAGR (Epilepsy Association of Greater Rochester) --I have epilepsy or APLA (AIDS Project Los Angeles) -- I don't have AIDS, I have volunteered there and it's just an outstanding organization.

i am hoping there are a lot of quiet achievers amongst us...

over 100 reads and only 12 people making an offering

perhaps you may not give to a charity now but you are going to or want to if you had the spare change.

what charities are worth supporting and which aren't??

Oddly even though I am a parapalegic I do not donate to that charity.

I do however donate to the local red cross, habitat for humanity (local), salvation army (local), womens refuge, humane society (animal shelter), golden umbrella (seniors), and a few others.

I know it may sound shallow and while I'll give a few dollars here and there as my emotions and conscience dictate, my favorite charity is myself.

If I am successful at the Bill Gates level I intend to be generous in a similar manner only after securing my future and that of my family.

I don't give to organized charities, but whenever I go out for dinner (which is pretty regularly) I'll purposely order too much food, get the leftovers wrapped to go, and give them to a homeless person while they're still warm.

I donate mainly to charites that have low overhead costs, and don't overpay their executives. I only wish I am was in a posistion to donate more.

I don't have much cash to give (struggling young entrepreneur) but I regularly donate my old clothing to the Developmental Disabilities Ass'n, I hire the North Shore Mental Health Association to do my package assembly, I give food and old blankets & towels to the local Salvation Army, and I give spare change to the odd homeless person every once in a while.

Plus, I pay my taxes and vote on social issues that deal with poverty!

I agree. I think it's high time that we re-distribute the world's unequal wealth. It won't hurt if we share our blessings to the less fortunate. By that, we have made the world a little better.
