Yes permalinks will make a huge difference. Also heard recently the use of month/day in url is less effective then just using the actual title. You also might want to setup some categories

Not hard at all. There are also a number of sites with articles and other content too.

Even some sponsors, like ARS, have feeds for their FHGs.
