    LAN Messenger Program?

When I am in my office and I want to send a message to someone else in my office, why use ICQ or email and send it out through the LAN, HUB, Firewall, ISP, only then to have it come all the way back into the local lan.

Is there any simple program that we can run on our machines inside the LAN to be able to send each other simple text messages?

Hell, I remember being able to do that on old 8088 unix boxes in JR High.

Anything for Winblows boxes over LAN?

(I don't want to run a local mail server)
Sorry, no signature today. Please come back tomorrow.

It also works with Win2k - you can also use the computer name instead of the machine's IP addy. For example,

net send bruno suck my cock

Will send computer "bruno" a message saying "suck my cock. I believe you can also type "net send * blah" to send it to all computers on the LAN.

More fun is a quick script that parses logs found on
the net and then sending every ip with Win2k, WinXP
and WinNT your favourite site in a popup message
          box.

Look to see some restrictions on the 'net send' in
the next release of WinXX. Especially since some guy
made the news yesterday with this trick at $700 a
          pop for his script.

I believe that net sends are pretty useless, just because you can't send clickable urls in those messages. You can't even copy&paste from the message box popping up.
