    Hosting own server

    Hi

I am getting a new wireless connection in the next week or so. It claims that it runs at 2mbs and 11mbs burstable.

What could I run on that bandwidth if I used for a server?

    TGP Gals
    AVS sites
    Nothing?

Also got apache 2 up and runing on XP..... is that stable enough now?

tgp site is no problem, but would hold back on any BIG sites... you can have about 50 surfers online at the time ag a "good" speed

First and foremost REMEMBER in all caculations with
      "consumer" wireless products , it's simplex. TCP/IP
communications are duplex. Cut that speed rating in
      half before you do anything.

Now we can get into the fun stuff (or art form if you
prefer) of radio propagation. Distance from the other
transciever, gain of both antennas, power output of
the transcievers, moisture in the air, trees in the way
      ...etc.

After you've got all that, what's the cost of the burst
      rate overage.

Finally you'll have a cost per bit on that link after a
little testing. Yes wireless can be a GREAT way of
running 2 T1s of speed into a hard to get to spot. I
have an installation in Niagra Falls way up Lundy's
Lane that communicates all the way back to the
Telehouse building in Buffalo N.Y. , some 19 miles
away! It's fine for running a dozen or so video streams,
and a mid size pay site.

Milage may vary, get the burst rate fees before you
do anything! Radio is either on or off, rate limitations
maybe artifically enforced at an egress router, but
your server may swamp the local wireless hot spot
and get you on the bad side of that ISP real quick.

If you want whole tech background on 802.11 in the
WAN, give me and email tim(remove)@iamlazy.com
I was the desginer of the Galaxy Online/MobyDark
      wireless router.

      This AVS pays my mortgage!

Praticaly nothing for the porn Industry

                Unless you have a t1 Or above which a t1 (Fractional) will run you between $400 - $600 a month . Full t1's are around $1200 a month.

This means you would have to have your own wireless connecters running in your house connected to your t1.

If you are getting the connection from a local ISP they dont expect you to run a porn site from it and once they catch you they will shut you off. And your Traffic will get Bottle necked cuase porn serrvers run more then 11 megs which is all 802.11b runs.

                Just a thought
