802.11a wireless networking

Anyone use one of these setups? I was thinking about getting this:

But after reading the reader reviews I am beginning to wonder. They advertise ranges of over 1000 feet outside, but most people say 70 feet is about the max. Some say they have to be in the same room to get it to work, also complaining about dropped connections.

Are they junk?

I use 3Com's to my network cams.. they work fine in a 300 feet radius inhouse, and about the double outside...

i had mine for 2 years without a problem

its good for around the house and the backyard,,

nothing like taking a shit and surfing the net


i don't have droped connections and it seems just as fast as cable,, but thier was occasion that my connection got dropped
when i used my 2.4 gig cordless phone,, but all i had to do was change the channel on the phone and it comes right back up

i've been using apple's version (airport) for several years now. i could never go back to wires.

one base station is good for a 3 level, 2000+ sq foot home.

I have never had issues with my 802. You certainly don't have to be in the same room. I don't know the footage, but the range is enough for a normal sized house.

I got some low end orinoco stuff that works great.
