photoshop question - quick help needed

Ok this is probably simple but since I'm semi-new to this I need a hand:

I have a lot of layers - as you do when designing

I want to make JUST 2 of those layer into one layer -

(i am making a little pic with a border around it and I want to move them together without loosing the positioning of the pic in it's litlle frame - does that make sense??)

Any help is most appreciated

get the two layers one above the other, click the top one and press ctrl+e "merge down"

Click on layer and select flatten image.That is the proper way to do what you want to do

Flatten image? I thought merges all the layers - i don't want to do that! i need to move the ;ayers - i think the other ones are what I am after

btw is there a way to do the horizontal/vertical mirror thing with a layer? with one command?

You should almost never flatten the image as this makes it uneditable in the future. Merge down layers is fine but I think if you just want to be able to move 2 layers together, you can just lock them together. Thus keeping the editablilty.

Best way would be to record and action of these steps. edit>transform>flip horizontal.

After you have the action recorded just play it when ever you need it.

Here's another tip:
Create an action, and assign it to like F8 or something...
Record the action of you deleting the last spot on the history.


This will be alot faster for you, for UNDOing a bunch of stuff.

alt ctrl z will step back through the history also

I am a big fan of shortcut keys, anyone that uses photoshop alot should learn them. Saves the wrists.

Hahaha - yes I found that out the hard way when I first started using photoshop a cojuple of years ago

Even now I still save all my designs as a PSD and then as a gif or jpg - Just to make sure

Yep, it does. I just like using 1 button instead of pretzling my fingers to hit 3 different keys.

I also set one up to create new layer, and merge with the previous layer. For rasterizing layers w/ style effects.
