The technology for local search is in beta across all search engines,

but I have heard extra good things about local.com over the others from yahoo or google

I only wish I could use it, being in Canada the site is only for the US.

So that's why i want to hear opinions

Local is _okay_ Nothing more then a yellow pages search engine. Maps are provided by mapquest like all the others and they seem to offer a sms (send this listing to your phone) option. If it's growning in popularity it's most likey due to it's simplicity and brandable domain name. (2c) Google's Local is slightly more OTT (over the top) considering alot of people online at the moment aren't exactly tech savvy and google has a more complex interface (UI). Everytime I mention Yahoo! Maps (maps.yahoo.com) to someone they say "yahoo offers that?" .. lol

Yeah, thats basically the same thing but they are offering _too_ much on the result pages and they did design work, lol. They won't ever take over local.com It's kind of like gumtree.com vs craigslist.org. One has a basic design that gives you what you want right when you want it. The other focused on design and gives you what you want PLUS other shit on the same page.. You heard of one but most likey not the other, lol.
