Pc connection help

Hi all i am trying to fix a computer for a friend

This one has got me stumped

He cant connect to the internet so i took it to my house and connected it. It connects fine but when i load IE it wont connect its not set to workoffline and the firewall is setup correctly

His IE has wanadoo written on it as it came with his internet cd

But it just wont connect to anything even though there is a connection on the pc

Any ideas?

Run AdAware, Run AVERT Stinger, Run Spybot, etc etc. If all else fails, drop to a command prompt and type at the c:\ (if you have XP on the machine)

"netsh reset winsock >c:\resetlog.txt"

w/o the quotes, and reboot. It resets winsock to defaults.

This wont damage any data ect by reseting winsock?
