It is going to kill more people then talking on your cellphone when driving, I guarantee it.

People are text messaging more and more each day, and almost everyone has to look at the phone and search for the right letters, combine that with driving and it's bad news.

Adult text messaging is starting to roll out here in the USA. Your starting to see more advertising on tv for adult text chat, joke of the day, etc. Its gonna be big.

I know texting is big here in Europe, but over here people generally do it during meetings, class, on the trains - that sort of stuff. Maybe it takes Americans to want to combine something like that with driving

I texted a 60 character message while driving just yesterday. It was an urgent message ...but while I was doing it I remember thinking to myself "wtf am I doing"
it's a very dangerous thing to do...if someone ahead of you hits their brakes hard it could be disastrous. I won't be doing that crap anymore tho.

Yep its huge here.
Last year more than 5 billion text messages where sent in Denmark with a total population of 5.4 million.
Its illegal to use the cell phone here while driving unless you have a hands free set, so you can talk while having both hands on the wheel.

It amazes me how many people on their phones pulling out from a parking lot (turning right) will look to their right but not their left as they are pulling out... it's like they want to know what they could have hit, not what's going to hit them when they pull out in front of it.

I agree with you on banning them behind the wheel. I used to think that states banning them were overstepping, but I have had too many close calls from idiots too wrapped up in their phone conversations.

As far as "urgent messages", NTSS, 60 characters is like what, 2 sentences? Pull the fuck over for 30 seconds and stop scaring the shit out of the rest of us.
