    Is wordpress server intensive?

I have a tgp/blog around 4-5k on a semi-dedicated (only 4 users) and the past 2 days, the mysql server has been crashing a few times a day. The host can't pinpoint exactly who is crashing it, but said it started after I moved to the server, even though I've been on it for almost 10 days now, 8 of them fine. Does anyone know if wordpress can handle "high" traffic on this sort of enviorment or does it need it's dedicated?

It all depends on how you use it. It is best to keep things which don't need to be dynamic, well, not dynamic. A list of links you update once a week, for example, is something you shouldn't do through the wp link manager.

Looks like some of the plugins might actually be the problem. Wp-cron.php probably isn't a good one to have. I've just disabled some, might be running too many connections.
