    Why use .asp over .php?

the more i think about it, the more mad it seems for sites to run on .asp

firstly its microsoft's, secondly it takes even more skilled monkeys to fix and thirdly the licensing is up the yingyang (compared to php of course)

Because the "p" key doesn't work on your keyboard.

Might be some security issues. That's a very broad question.

PHP all the way. ASP, like you mentioned, has licensing up the yingyang, not to mention the coding structure is, how would i say this...not logical!!

ASP.net is actually pretty damn good ... it all depends of what you want to build your business on ... here in canada, pretty much only ASP is thought at school (no PHP or almost). So it dosen't leave business a choice

php will be the standard language for all dynamic web pages eventually.

might as well jump on the train now.

it is, if you can find someone to support and write it. thats why i am at a loss.. i could get a portal done in asp but would have a harder time to find someone supporting and making additions to it.

Both languages have strengths and weaknesses. I personally prefer php sites now, but have done many in asp .net .aspx and .asp and found some def. advantages in the language. Why not learn both, and use whichever fits your application the best?
