2nd hand Content Plugin Question

I'm doing an increasing amount of licenses for web presentation of my original video tapes. These licenses have been strictly for showing of the derived works within membership areas.

However, some web masters have expressed a desire to include it in content plugins they are offering or plan to offer to other webmasters. But I have no idea how I should price this option.

I see that the flat, one-time fee that I charge for the current license would be inadequate but have no idea what (workable!) arrangement would be required to ensure that I would be adequately compensated.

Any ideas or suggestions put there?

hmmmmmmmmm............ why would you want these people to compete against you? you're already leasing it as a plugin. If they undercut you on price and are better positioned in terms of marketing to webmasters it's going to hurt your existing plugin business.

you should get a substantial amount if you're going to do it. Figure out what it would cost them to duplicate what you've got.

Why not just let these people sell it for a %.

No, I don't offer plugins- I'm into "hard goods", retailing my self-published VHS tapes, so there wouldn't be any direct competition.

The content licenses I've offered to date has been for DV copies of the masters with them pulling whatever material from it they wanted, whether it was clips or caps. More work for them, granted, but it gives them more control over the derived work, I'm too busy gathering content and, hey, I'm pretty damm cheap.

There's a rub, some of the voyeuristic works I produce are extremely difficult to do and, what with the drift of recent legislation, becoming rarer on the market

Right, but I have no idea what percentage. If someone was offering a plugin using my content, they're doing the grunt of the digitizing, design and promotion of the plug in, dealing with the web masters that carry it and the expense of the bandwidth bill. In other words, they're bearing the brunt of the work, time and expense- not to mention the risk.

So, I guess the question actually boils down to this: What is a reasonable working relationship between a content producer that is partnered with someone that is capable of selling the content...

ok, you've made yourself more clear now. you DON'T wanna be maintaining and leasing the plugin yourself .
It's not so much work, whoever you sell the stuff to is doing that kind of stuff as a business. The work that goes into prepping a plugin is a joke compared to you actually going out and shooting it. That's why you're getting so many offers for it.

I think whoever buys the leasing rights will or should ask for the exclusive rights.
i really think you should get a big price for this, this is pretty rare content, like i said, consider how much it would take for somebody to do the same content themselves

You're going to get lowballed i guarantee you that. I'd say take a partnership deal with some big content company but ......... risky. Hard to trust anybody.

how much have you been charging these sites who only buy a one site license? they buy your tapes and you give them the right to digitize them and put them in their members area?

hmmmmm........ you're in a good position. set up a bidding war, this stuff is VERY hard to shoot and as you say the legal situation is getting dicey.

i might have an interested party for you. don't make a deal before you hear a bunch of offers cuz i think you got something good.
