SAN DIEGO (Reuters) - Two men who allegedly paid street people to fight each other as part of the Internet video sensation "Bumfights" have been arrested in San Diego, police said on Tuesday.

The arrests of Las Vegas residents Zachary Bubeck, 24, and Ryan Edward McPherson, 19, followed a three-month probe by the La Mesa Police Department into the "Bumfights" tapes, Lt. Raul Garcia said. La Mesa is a suburb of San Diego.

Another piece of bad news: they were arrested by state officials meaning they will go to state prison instead of federal prison if convicted. State prisons are notorious for violent male rapes.

I loved watching the advocate for street people saying that he was all for the Bum Fight tapes, simply because it kept the issue of homelessness in the public eye, and held the medias attention...

Why did they not cover their asses and get the appropriate paperwork? I guess homeless people are a tough call since most of them definitely don't carry identification/ssn cards huh.

I do think if they were leaving injured bums lying around while their tapes sell like hotcakes that they are in the wrong. However I don't see why someone could not take the idea and run with it.

I have to say that I think encouraging kids across america to harrass homeless people does suck though. Not that this does not happen already but you can be sure the copy cats will come out the wood work. Lots of good and bad points in it all.

Actually he must have been talking about the story being aired later this week. The program just ended and I didn't see any more on Bumfights. They did show a bunch of clips from the tapes as a preview though.
