I'm not sure .. but I think a soft ban is when they kill your Nick ... but not your IP ... you can still sign up and use another name ... like Fake Nick did with Ray Nagin .....

Close, but no. a "soft" ban is what NOFX experienced. It gives a generic error that makes it appear as though GFY itself is having problems.
A ban is when your nick is banned.
IP blocking is just an added measure, but still easily bypassed using proxies.
