Browsers won't work...HELP!!

I have a computer that will connet on the net with ftp and ssh, but both netscape and IE won't connect to any web sites. I've been pulling my hair out for 2 hours with no progress. Anyone know what could be causing this? BTW, the machine is running Windows 2000.
