    Stealing Design Work

If you steal someones design and tweak it a bit to make it your own, is that ok? I feel like it's not the right thing to do, but for some people its the way to go, saves them time... especially if the design they are stealing was almost exactly what they were gonna build.....

    Thoughts?
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.

i learned everything on the internet by changing designs and scripts.

by the time i was done changing it though it would have been quicker to write it from scratch. i don't have any more of those designs or scripts published anymore.

but on the other hand, i would be pissed though if someone took something i made without permission and changed it enough to look different, but it was still the same.

i'm glad i was able to change them to learn, but now that i'm actually selling my work then i'm very set against it.

so i would say if you don't get permission, then fuck you. i work too hard on my projects to have someone rip it off.

if someone claimed that they were stealing designs at the forum on www.flashkit.com i'm sure you would either get banned or someone would track you down and kick you ass.

You can steel the layout but not the design!

Haaahahahah man, we are in an industry that is lazy by default. Get used to it. Style biters are a dime a dozen, and it happens all up and down the adult foodchain. Big guys rip little guys. Little guys definitely rip big guys. I have been ripped off more times than I can count. I have actually seen 3rd generation rip off designs based on my original designs. There isn't much that can be done about it honestly. What I do is just come up with something better, to keep the uncreative, lazy bastards who steal my ideas on their toes.

I guess you can make it as a refference and create your own thing. But copying exactly what it looks it won't help you as a designer.

Stealing is like cheating yourself too!
You pretend you did that thing when in fact, it's somebody's sweat and blood that had gone through it...
