    BBS Script talk...

Before anyone asks, its NOT adult related in any way, but I'm starting a BBS and need some software that will handle tremendous amounts of usage.

Now since this is initially experimental i dont want to PAY for a script, so it would have to be free... im thinking maybe phpbbs... its my understanding that vBulletin is the most commercial strenght... if i start with phpbbs, can i export the posts to vBulletin if i want to upgrade in the future?

    your thoughts are appreciated

You can import to vBulletin from phpBB. The details are here: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showp...06&postcount=2

That said, you may well find that you decide not to switch. phpBB has a huge base of volunteer developers which collectively represents far more resources than any of the commercial BBS scripts have at their disposal. It is an excellent script that is very adaptable and compatible with a raft of other scripts and interfaces.

One downside of phpBB is that because it is so popular it is a prime target for hackers, so expect security updates 2 or 3 times a year. But if you make sure you are kept informed as to when they are available and install them promptly, you shouldn't have any problems.
