Ok need to add a domain to an unmanaged server with Cpanel (tomorrow). Can I just add it in Cpanel and have the DNS set and its all ok to go? Or are there any other requirements to get it running?
as MaDalton said.. It depends on the way your host has it set up.. Most hosts set it up so cpanel automatically updates the DNS servers when you add a domain..
add it to cpanel, make sure that the ftp directories were added correctly, setup dns, and yes you should be set to go. That's been my experience anyway.
Well Im gonna move the fhg and add hosted sites and vids to an unmanaged server. I dont need scripts or whatever installed so just ftp is fine.
Havent decided 100% but Im gonna go for servermatrix, yes their cogent, just gonna see how this works out. I need to get the htaccess off of the galleries, since its amazing how many affiliates hotlink content and want to.
So 20 or 25mpbs and unmanaged. Just hope Im not making the biggest mistake of my life
WHM webhost manager is where you will add those domains, and if they are pointed to your servers ip adding them via whm is all you will need to do. Then ftp your sites.

Cool thanks! This WHM is installed when youve asked for Cpanel?

usually yes when you got a dedicated box. but at ev1 for example you have to add the domains also through their admin interface - so you better ask your hosting company

k cool.
I did check ev1, but their 10mbps is too small and 100 too big. Besides the 10 are never available :/
When you create a new account in WHM, the DNS zones are updated. All you have to do is to change your registrar DNS info to point to your DNs ( ns1.yourdomain.com, ns2.yourdomain.com ) .
Takes 15 min to resolve.
This is standard for any WHM/Cpanel setup.
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !
But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

Was gonna do that yes. Even looked into round robin.
I thinkx you may be in over your head ... When they send you a welcome message that your server is online it will not be ready to start adding domains to them. You are going to minimally need to setup DNS on the server so that it can be seen/found on the internet before you start adding domains. Plus you really need to have the box hardened/secured before you start adding domains. My advice is hire a system admin to get you started or subscribe to a monthly management service.

Setting up DNS is 2 secs work. Cpanel does that. Weve got 4 managed boxes now, thought Id try an unmanaged one. If it doesnt work out, its 5 secs before the dns is reset.
And loadsharing is totally diff then round robin, but I guess you know. The whole idea of round robin is gone with loadsharing. And I do hope with 25mbps that its gonna be enough at least till end of next year before we upgrade to 50.
you can also use mod_rewrite features for this..... or pre-define linking affiliate web sites so no other sites/users can easily leech your bandwidth..
