Pulling samples clips from mpeg videos

Was wondering what do you guys use for pulling out 8 to 10 second samples clips from full mpeg videos. Is there something that does batch cause i have a few i need to take samples from and screen caps. Also for screen caps what do you use. Need something fast that i can set to run overnight and come back to samples the next day.
