    Please help with killing gophersearch.com

A friend of mine has a little boy who likes to play Neopets and other kids games on the computer. Well every now and again he comes in crying because there is porn all over the computer, or nude people as he likes to say. (he is still at the age were girls are icky so to answer all the pervs question NO he is not looking at porn, YET. haha) Apparently this Gophersearch.com will change your start page and then it will pick up random porn sites to replace your start page.

This is my friends letter, to me, explaining it:
What happened (twice) is he must have been surfing on the net. He agreed to something I am sure he didn't understand what he was doing. Anyway, it downloaded a Trojan that changes the Start Page and Search Bar in the registry for MS Internet Explorer to gophersearch. com. Even when I manually change it back it changes it back.

What is does is bring up a random (adult) website when you start MS IE as your home page. One can go to their home page and run 5 programs that will remove the Trojan, which I have done twice now.

Can someone please help me with this problem? These guys are really spreading the fuck you attitude towards the industry and need to be destroyed.

So I thought I would see if someone on here, that is great at this stuff, could help me out. Someone like Smokey The Bear etc?.. I want to crush these guys.

He uses FireFox but the kids use Internet Explorer. He can change them over but it pisses him off because these fucktards are putting porn on his little boys Pokemon Site!

I want to crush these assholes. It pisses me off for two reason, kids shouldn't be forced to see sex and these fuckers give us hard working good people, who enjoy sex and spreading sex to adults, a bad name.

I know there are a lot of asshats out there that do this, but if we kill them as we see them it has to help, doesn't it?

A child shouldn't be given unsupervised access to the net. Put him on a filter that lets the parents preapprove URLS. AFAIK a trojan won't be able to send him to an unapproved URL. Do that first, then go after the asshats
              .

Not the answer to the problem (see above). Firefox has only been safer because it was not as widely used and not as desirable of a target as the number of people using IE, but that is changing.

This is bad ... bad to the kids ... bad to our industry ...

And tough I agree parents should supervise, this is quite different. They take over your computer to direct you to adult sitrs. Quite different than surfing...

Maybe 12clicks could help ... I hear he is quite knowledgable in that field of activities ....
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !

But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....

It was a spyware proggie that got her in the situation in the first place.

Perhaps you meant an anti-spyware proggie or a spyware removal proggie

Greed spawns some very undesirables, and I am sorry to read about what they've done.

(Now, if your textually challenged, you?ll want to skip my reply ? tooooo many words, y0!)

                              I recommend:
(The following are all free products and more or less fully functional.)
                              1). TrendMicro www.antivirus.com or www.trendmicro.com (FireFox & IE compatible).
Under the PERSONAL section, look for FREE ONLINE SCAN. At the very bottom, they offer two tools (.exe). Download and run both (CWShredder and Spyware Scanner). Next, click on the HOUSECALL link and if offered, run the beta scan combo (searches for spyware, viruses and vulnerabilities). If not offered, run what is. NEVER USE THE AUTO CLEAN FUNCTION!
Review the items found and do what you must - chances are you will need to install some Windows updates, do ALL those marked critical.
(Trend Micro is a very reputable company, not one that is known for spreading spy or mal ware or any other malicious code.)

                              2). Spybot
Go to www.cnet.com (NOT www.download.com - known bastards) and search for Spybot. Install it (allow or use Teatimer), update it first, then run a FULL system scan.
An adequate replacement is AdawareSE (I prefer Spybot as it has an active scanner called TEATIMER, as well it will repair system problems (similar to Symantec's Norton Utilities)

                              3) avast4! Home
Go to www.alwil.com. Go to the PRODUCTS section. Locate and download avast4! Home
Be sure to register (supply a valid e-mail and the will send a registration or key code) as it will give you more or less full use of the program (including all updates) for more than one-year.
Update and run a full [I}THOROUGH[/I] scan.

Make sure you take the time to learn how to properly configure Avast as it is a very powerful utility.

(I hope you do not need this)
4). Re-install Windows ? DO NOT PERFORM A SOFT INSTALL.
                              - fdisk
                              - format c
                              - setup ?

If your wondering who is this fucking clown: I provide support for all our members (as well those to certain other sites that insist on passing off install, such as ?toolbars? etc), friends and family and the above has worked for all ... no matter the version or type of intrusion.

Any question, you can post them here, or e-mail me MAIL ME and I will reply once I?m at the office.

Yah, I just posted my e-mail address ? cause I got my shot covered!)

P.S. Please forgive me for any errors ... tooo many words, and I'm a poor editor.

Excellet advice from Paco above ^I would recommend in addition checking out AdAware and the anti-spyware program offered by Microsoft. Doesn't hurt to be redundant

But getting back to the important topic of this thread, don't let kids surf the internet unattended .

I'm with you Loryn..these types that hijack peoples computers should be taken down harshly. Why should your friend even have to download this and that to fix the damage these assholes do.The government might not be looking so hard at adult now if this crap would've been taken down when it started.

And tough I agree parents should supervise, this is quite different. They take over your computer to direct you to adult sitrs. Quite different than surfing...

Maybe 12clicks could help ... I hear he is quite knowledgable in that field of activities ....
funny, a little birdy told me that you are popping adult ads by installing spyware on some type of hosting company you're involved with.

But getting back to the important topic of this thread, don't let kids surf the internet unattended .

Thanks mardisgras ... years of helping peeps out has got the best of me.

I say a parent needs to do just that, parent their children and provide them with a safe avenue for collecting information (never deny a growing mind).

Give them access to the net, BUT only through a paranoid version of FireFox ... highest security settings yadda-yadda and password protect so they can not modify.

That is why I want to take these guys down. This is exactly the shit that fucks us. My friend and I where talking about what would happen if this happen at his ex wife's house? She would totally be the type to start a whole petition and write her legislation about the adult online porn industry. Luckily she is brain dead when it comes to computers and doesn't have one at her house. But my friend is fairly smart when it comes to computers and is able to remove it. He likes porn, like all the pervy men do , and thinks this is just the shit to fuck it up for all the rest of us. I will not rest until I get these fuckers, some way some how. Yeah it's only one program/site and there are others out there, but if every time we came across these guys we attack them it will start to help. I want the industry to be looked at for what it is, a group of adults having fun spreading sexual enjoyment to other adults and making tons cash! Not trying to force children and people who do not want porn to see it.

Thank you again! I was just thinking the other day about getting the lastest programs to help guard my computer and once again you come through with the great info!
