Apache gurus I got a easy Question...

How do I set a different value for MaxClients in the httpd.conf file?

I'm just not sure what the command is in in UNIX... or do I haveto emacs the file and shit...

Edit httpd.conf and find "MaxClients". Make sure it is not commented out with a "#". If you want more than 256, you'll have to re-install it with a higher client configuration.

I had it @ 300, I just changed it to 400... do you think it will work?

you also need to restart apache. there is also a compile time maximum for maxclients, if you need to set it above that you wll need to recompile apache.

            Run:
            # apachectl configtest

It will report any errors, even if you had at 300, if your server wasnted compiled for more than 256 (editing the source files) then it would start but still only run 256 max.

            Take Luck!

I think the HARDSERVERLIMIT is 500 by default, but I'm not sure.

Apache won't start if you set MaxClients above the HARDSERVERLIMIT, so if it starts, it's okay.
