Shut everything down I mean turn every pc off your cable modem/dsl off your router, unplug the router and cable/dsl and wait 1 min then... boot your cable modem on then your router, then your notebook then your main pc

    should fix the problem

One more thing also make sure all your lines are plugged in to the nic card if all else fails on the back or side of your router there is a reset switch find something small and push that in and do everyhing I said with turning everything off.

ok, if the LED is on, then you are not connected. Plain and simple. get it physicall connected first, now, go to the working computer and go to start menu/run command and type in cmd. hit return, now type ipconfig /all you should get something like this.
          Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
          (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

          C:\Documents and Settings\caz>ipconfig /all

          Windows IP Configuration

          Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : (your computer name)
          Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
          Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
          IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
          WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

          Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

          Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
          Description . . . . . . . . . . . : (your ethernet card type)
          Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : (your mac address)
          Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
          IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.2 (this is important)
          Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
          Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1 (this is important too)
          DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 4.2.2.1
          4.2.2.2

          C:\Documents and Settings\caz>
find you ip address, if it says 192.168. smething.something you are ok.
this is on the working one you should see that. on the non working one you might see 169.254.soimething.something. thats bad, its the default address for not connect. read thjis carefully, if you can connect with the lapto try a static address. meaning go into properties of adapter use an address simlar to the working pc. so if the working one is 192.168.1.101 thast means your gateway address is 192.168.1.1 so use on your laptop 192.168.1.2 for the pc address and put the subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and the gateway is the same as on the working pc (192.168.1.1) put that in. for the dns servers use the ones i am using 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2 ,they are a standard in a way and all real network engineers use em for something. if you don't get it, just icq me and i'll walk you through it. it simple but not easy and only takes a few seconds. if you do all this and it works you good.
