    Anyone using OpenSSL?

Will this SSL cert appear exactly the same as a paid cert from Geotrust or Thawte? I'm talking about through the eyes of the consumer. I've seen strange "unsigned certificate" errors before on other sites and I want to make sure this thing will look like the real deal.

Anyone running some sort of SSL security on a *ix machine will be running openSSL.

That being said, if you decide to sign your own cert using the programs provided you will get that "Untrusted" security popup BUT your data will still be encrypted.

Yes except for sales take a shit when 90% of your customers hit the back button instead of checking out. So I gotta avoid that security popup even if it's actually encrypted.

self signed certs ar the same like paid ones, but as someone mentioned here - buy the commercial one for 40-50 USD and put a big seal with "Protected by some ..." - it will help to your sales believe me.
