    ebay question.

I'm selling a Nikon F5, and some guy asked me what the serial number is.

Is that a bogus question? Why would he need the s/n? Is he going to report it stolen? Should I answer?

    Sounds odd to me.

Just make sure he doesn't request to send you a cashier's check for $200 more than what it's actually selling for.

likely wants to look on their website to see if it is a) under warrantee or b) already reported stolen

check their website to see if these features are available

if you have documentation you own it wouldnt matter if he knows the serial

Just a thought but he could have had one of the exact same model stolen from him and maybe he just wants to check to see if it's possibly his.

Other than that, I wouldn't see why he would need the serial #.

I used to know a guy who had a camera store and he would frequently ask people questions like that. He was able to tell from the serial number things about the camera like when it was manufactured and what version of software it came from the the factory with and other stuff.
