          Take a look here:

I'm not done with it yet, but I think the answers to your question are there.

All of the htaccess redirecting tips are great and useful, until you try to do it on a password protected directory. Which ironically is when you need it the most.

Put any/all the htaccess rewrites you want into your pass protected directory. Then watch as the surfers your are trying to redirect still get to enter a user/pass combo multiple times.

It makes it pointless if you ask me. I'd like to redirect surfers that come from pass trading sites IMMEDIATELY. So far I have found no way to do so. No matter what I try, they still get the user/pass prompt.

I think if you put it in the home directory (www.domain.com) it will redirect them before it loads the password prompt in your members section (www.domain.com/members/). Might want to try it, anyway, and see if it works.

I have a way to do this, it's a little bit tricky though...
First you set an environment variable if the referer comes from the cheating site, then fix the redirect as usual, but in the Limit part Allow from that environment variable.
Should I add this to my little tutorial??

If you are trying to protect movie files, there is no way to do that simply with .htaccess, FYI.

That is not the job of htaccess, to block hacking attempts that is...

I'm not talking about blocking hacking attempts. I said I'd like to see anyone show me how you can actually redirect password traffic from a pass site to a pass protected directory which of course is where they will be sending all the traffic.

You can put the normal mod rewrite htaccess in the pass protected folder, but the surfers from the passtrader site will still get the user/pass prompt regardless.

Apparently the server does auth BEFORE rewrite or something. There SHOULD be a way to INSTANTLY redirect surfers coming from a hostile URL even when they are going to a pass protected directory. So far I haven't found the way to do it, and I haven't found anyone that can tell me how.

                                    Now you've found him
Added a new entry at http://www.kinky-place.com/stuff/resourcesfs.htm that describes it (near the bottom). It feels a bit creepy because what I do is to open the directory wide for them just before I redirect them somewhere else. I was trying to figure out if that creates a security hole, but if it does I haven't found it yet.

Yes, if you know what the referer URL will be, just follow the instructions in my tutorial, but instead of redirecting to google as I did in the example, redirect to your custom page.

iProtect will do exactly what you need, and do it automatically..no rewrites to worry about, no editing the htaccess when a new password site hits you.
iProt will stop the password sites and hack scripts and you can redirect that traffic to anywhere you want.
