    remember when ...

The nice thing about this biz is that things change so fast that anyone around for more than a couple of years is an ole timer with fond memories of the "way things were."

I'm a real part timer, but started long ago with a gallery on geocities and then a site on The Globe. And I remember when ..

I got personal replies from Al4A when I submitted, and an apology and explanation when they wouldn't post a geocities gallery

And there were only about 10 TGPs at most and I thought there wasn't any point in staring another one because that business niche had obviously already been filled beyond capacity (I never claimed to be smart)

And "The Mighty Adult Buffet Family" was the biggest thing around -- and worth submitting to

And you could get a Yahoo listing fairly easily(damn it all, I only got one that I still have -- STUPID)

And the top paying click-through (20 cents a pop) was CyberThrill Casino. Man I thought I'd make a lot of money with them

But now I'm jest an ole timer with my memories to sustain me through these long low conversion nights. Things sure have changed.

heheh.. I remember being 14 and finding about the xpics things.. Wow. Talk about motivation to lean a programming language!

Keep in mind, those were my young and stupid(er) days. But I walked off with like $50/week.. BIG MONEY for a 14 year old!

Oh yeah -- one more that I just thought of while checking my cyberage stats --

I remember when AdultCheck had fewer than 10,000 sites and I thought about making some AVS sites but then thought -- Nah -- must be too late to make any money that way, because the AVS business is obviously overdone already

      All true incidentally.

        Hmm. I guess.

I worked briefly (6 weeks) for XPics in webmaster relations (until I wised up), and almost everyone was making at least several hundred dollars a week. Quite a few were making over $1K!

For a while, XPics was just about the only game in town if you knew almost nothing about webmastering.

The good ol' days, don't ya just love em'.
Can't remember the first freehost I used but I had 3MB of webspace, I used to run 2 galleries linked together as a site with about 5 recips on each gallery and update each page twice a week (the days when you could resubmit the same url over and over again..) and it ran along at about 10K per day which I thought was a big WOW.
Made a few bucks off swedenteens and got screwed by xpics for a few more.
Then two things happened, I found AP as a sponsor and made some $$'s then one day I started getting 6K per hour on one of the pages (the server lasted about six hours before it blew a fuse),you got it, the big yellow guy had picked up one of my galleries and from that day forward never updated a gallery again.
