    Do I need this code?

    Hi all.

I have seen this code on many sites:

    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">

It tells the browser what html I am using or?!

    Anyway, do I need it?

            Hi Shemp.

I am not here so often so I dont know how everything works.

Anyway, I mean the DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC stuff that are first in the html file.

I putted that in on all my sites because I heard that it should be there so the browser could read it better or something like that. I have loss a big amount of traffic now and maby it is because of that. I dont know.

            What do you think?

                  !DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN"

You mean that code with the brackets around it?

Without that code you don't have qualified html to some browsers. It tells the browsers what version of html to expect in the source.

That's why I never add that piece of secret code.

Really I'm not über-elite enough, so I don't even know the secret handshake.
