    IP detection software

I just read an article on tracking foreign traffic and the author suggests using ip detection software to filter foreign traffic to different pages. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I should use?

Here's the link to the article:

Theoretical it is possible by doing a trace route on the ip address, which can give you as much as zip code (you will defenatly get the country) but it will eat a lot of resources. If you would want to determine a country why not just use language from the browser settings?

If you are targeting your surfers by language, then BrowserLanguage would be good enough, but if you want to offer content local to country, then you need to use IP.

For eg, if you had a US ex-pat in HongKong, looking to buy a DVD online... you want to give him a store in HongKong to reduce his costs, and also give him a version of the store that he can read.

For that, you'd need to use both BrowserLanguage, and IP.

If anyone is looking for the technology, we've got a product on sale next week that will meet your needs, does all this stuff.

You can't tell which IP belongs to which country. You can only tell which IP belongs to which organization.

                              See http://www.acmebw.com/askmrdns/archi...1&question=100 for example...

I wonder what Mr DNS would answer now, 5 years after he answered the question above.

We can tell which IP belongs to which country, with approx. 95% accuracy. The inaccuracy is due to large company networks that span many countries.

                                It does work.
