    dns question

    I want to see where my isps dns is sending me for requests for a certain domain...is there any software to check that....windows or linux?

    the most basic is windows network monitor...

        heheh yea i use ethereal...and i just realized that it shows dns querys...damn...didnt even think of that...

            None of that is necisary. From Linux just type host <domain name>

            For windows just type ping <domain name>

            Either will resolve the address for you. Using a packet sniffer or network monitor to trace a dns lookup is like using a cannon to light a cigarette.

              well in windows(in mycase) if the host is down it still wont show a ip....or maybe its because im having problems with my isps dns server...not sure...

              but i just did get host(hostx) and that is exactly what i needed ...man this will be nice!!!

                dnslookup would be the windows tool to debug dns.

                  if the dns server is down dnslookup would not do you anygood.
