My first poll. Be gentle, I heard it pinches alot the first time.

I have always been curious about this. I know how my circle of acquaintances feels about this, but not the "community" at large. I know we got everything from Goody Goodies like Unseen who never heard an mp3 or a downloaded a piece of warez... to people like me. So it should make for some good whining. And the whiny girls need to be exposed and ridiculed.

Here is the way I see it.

Given that I know how easy it is to get all the necessary things like serials, cracks, patches etc... it would be akin to sticking a case of beer in my fridge and telling me to ignore that case of beer and to go to the store and buy it instead.

Im drinking it. Fuck going to the store, there are people there.

I am not saying it is right. I have heard all the usual arguments already so spare me the rhetoric. I dont care if Juju Julalibad in India isnt getting my 5 bucks to register Leeto Spellchecker v1.0. He should have worked some protection into that shit. If its so weak a 14 year old Norwegian kid cracks it, fuck it. Its mine.

And I do buy what I cannot crack. Which isnt much. I bought NewsRover.

Music is one thing I cannot even begin to remotely understand why anyone would buy. You have to listen to some pretty obscure shit to not be able to find it online.

Esp if you love ANY of the more mainstream genres from classical to punk to techno to rap, there is more online that you could possibly download.

I had to buy a 80 gig drive just to store my music, and I listen to bad music so its not as easy to find. I gotta imagine you hip hop and techno freaks gotta have massive collections as there are so damn many of you out there to trade with.

Again, no way I am going to buy a cd when I can download it free, 6 months before it is even due to come out. phht right.

I been using cracked versions of photoshop since I cant even remember. Its the easiest piece of software to get free thats for sure. And now with shit like Kazaa... it even more freakishly easy to get warez. It used to be actually hard to get this shit. The late 90s early 00's should be seen as the decade of warez for sure.

I think thats why photoshop is almost the standard. Because everyone I know has it, yet nobody I know has paid for it.

Also let's go back to basic, I started using computers at the age of 6 and I'm sure if not most, many of you here started at very early age. Do you expect a kid or a student to be able to afford to pay software to learn the art of the computers? Personally I had problem to afford changing computer over years and I was waiting whenever my uncle will remember to give me his old (for his own stantards) computer to get it. And these moments were some of the happiests. Imagine now having to pay for the software.

If you have the right sources warez is never hard to get. Photoshop is great. But it's just to freaking expensive !!! it costs 1200$ here or somthing. And it would take me a lot more time to buy it then to crack it. I got a Photoshop 5.0 limited ed. that came with my camera still wraped in plastic. Any one wanna by it

The last crack I had for my graphics package wasn't so good though, the company is smart, you can only access all the templates they have if they mail a cd to you (after you've placed the order) so I still have the demo version.

As far as music I just use Kazaa ...Can't believe anyone with a computer would actually go buy a cd ....

I admit, I would not be where I am today without warez and cracks. However, I find I am now, as I become more established, buying all of my software. I've gone beyond the stages of newb warez user. I can't afford to be creamed with a bunch of warez on my systems. Plus it's all a big ass write off.

I have to admit that I am the sort of user who has never ever paid for any software, except for

a. Adult software (that is hard to find, and in most cases cheap anyway) like RS, GASS, LUP,
b. Games that are worth buying. If I feel like the40 bucks is reasonable for a kickass product like WarCraft 3, I do pay it.

On the other hand, all my Windows versions I ever owned, Office versions, burn tools like Nero, Photoshop 6 and 7, PSP, Macromedia Fireworks and Dreamweaver, I got em all out from the web, kazaa or found appropriate cracks at astalavista.

I could afford the software I use, but why should I, when I can get it for free ? Don't see the newbie warez behavior there, elighten me.

XP no instal, etc, As far as microsoft stuff goes I find myself spending more time on fucking phone to MS dictayoing trings of 50+ numbers, and basically havvnn to ask THIER PERMMISION, for me to use the stuff i bought n paid for...
than actually using the fucking products, (or in xpcases, the PC's or laptops themselves)
as for other stuff.. Have to find bloddy lost SN install numbers etc, keep all my good disks close to hand... then if I cant find the biit of cardboard wiv number on it... Or if i goi USA 4 a bit, BRING THEM ALONG TOO....

i bought some games.. i usually download them first and play, if i like it, i buy it.. one reason is that i wanna play it online and the other reason is i feel like supporting them.. i want better games to come out in the future


as far as Microsoft goes... i think they are putting a blind eye on this issue.. well, it may seem that they are getting more serious about this on every release of windows, but what i believe is, they rather have people not pay for windows and use it, than having people use other OS..


and i am not as much as a power user i used to be.. i dont remember visiting astalavista for months maybe... all i need is my text editors, chat proggies, winamp and a simple image editor.. no need for more

My personal opinion is as follows.

When I first began my involvement with the business, I did indeed use hacked products myself. However, approx 18 months ago, I decided to purchase all my software, instead of using illegal software, due to my increased concerns about the potential circumstances of being caught.

I unfortunately now regret my foolish decision, due to the wide range of problems that this has caused me. Amongst other things, I found the Microsoft product activation issue, to be particularly annoying.
I will no longer be paying out for the legal versions of software.
This is not because of the price, but due to the inconvenience of the day too day practicalities of doing so.

As its my first posting on GFY I understand that its customary to tell fellow board members to perform an unnatural solo sexual act upon themselves, so in entering into the spirit of things, I do so. I dont know what you are downloading, but I wont touch anything under 192k bitrate, and at that bitrate and higher, you cant distinguish between the two unless you are some obsessed technogeek audiophile.

Half the time its only 1 or 2 good songs and the rest are shit, so I don't like spending 20 bucks for 3 minutes of music.

I buy software....for the simple reason that if you get caught
with illegal software and you´re making money by using the
software they will even fuck you a lot harder than for using it
for personal use.

Shareware stuff....if I like I buy it.....the best example is UltraEdit.
I love that editor so much I bought 2 licenses just because I think
it is worth so much more than the price 1 license cost. The guy
who wrote that app deserved some support. Basically if I like it

MP3´s I just download it made me buy less CD´s but I do still
buy them. If I really like something I´m not going to spend 1
hour downloading all tracks of an album and then burn it onto
a CDrom....for that effort I might aswell just pick it up at the store.
