Wanted Header/Footer Script

I need a header footer script that doesn't use ssi, which I can install on a unix server

this has to work on existing html pages without changing the page name

It would be so much easier if you used an include. What exactly do you want a varying header and footer for and what criteria is it based on.

Just use php if your host has it loaded in your apache, and put this in your page header and footer.

All your html page stuff here

"<"? include "/mystuff/footer.inc"; ?">"

** Note take out the extra quotes around the left and right brack for the php, I can't seem to get it to show up in the message without putting them in there.

And then create a .htaccess that has this in it.

AddType application/x-httpd-php html
AddType application/x-httpd-php htm

That way php will parse all htm and html pages also

I chatted with my host briefly, and there is a good chance of doing this, it sounds like

I am changing 1000's of linking codes today, which prompted me to think that there must be a much better way

I am hoping that there will be not too much server load tho

The use is simple, in the plethora of little sites I have, I would like to be able to call a header and footer, based on a theme, ie lesbian, big tits, hardcore, etc

At regular intervals I can update the header, and footer, based on sales, sites, sponsor performance, of just keeping things fresh

On our boxes we run php4 compiled into apache with the optimizer and we see little difference on the server load. We did a test 6 months ago on a software site that we run, the site was getting 200K pages views a day, and was being statically called for about 90% of the pages, We switched over and added common page includes and ran it all thru php, less that 5% increase on overall system usage, and it cut down on our updating by 3 hours a day

We also run all of our adult sites like that, we have a directory with nothing but our sponsors code links, so if we want to change the text links or banners for all of our sites, all we have to do is make one change within a single directory and all of a sudden all our sponsors stuff is updated. For days when ars pops up to $75 a signup it's nice to be able to change one set of code and send all our traffic that way, and then at the end of the day switch it back
