Why do so many webmasters do this

When ever a refferral code is posted, people go out of their ways to visit the site with out the code.
I personnally find my self doing this, but end up takking the link.

Can not be greed since it does not cost you anything.
Either is the fact that you do not want to think anyone is making money off of your work, or your super paranoid and do not want someone else to possibly see if your making sales.

i always ask for sponsor links, figure if i sign up, under someone, it helps them out, i hate signing up WITHOUT a link, so i ask around, got an account with ____ hit me with a link. but I find that a lot of people dont want to deal with the hassle of finding a referral code for a few cents. But I have signed up for quite a few sponsors via GFY banners, sigs, links.

Most webmasters see other webmasters as competition and don't want them to succeed.

my guess is the new webmaster doesn't want the other to know how much they are making with the sponsor.

when webmaster A signs up under B and then B under A to a different sponsor, then both of them win

I only signup under refs if i made a thread saying "spam me". Also through sigs.

used to do it too but now i sign up under refcodes, since i make a nice amount from a webmaster signed up under a refcode of me. We all get better from it.

Any I DO use the referral code when the webmaster provides something for it, such as some useful info, gallery descriptions, etc etc
