Recommend me a server stats program

Is there a stats program around that will track all of my gallery stats without getting me banned etc with javascript code etc, but will track my traffic, with referrers without causing too much load on the server whilst i get anywhere between 100,000 to 600,000 hits per day.

    any suggestions for this.

i would prefer to host it myself, and also prefer to have it show no image on the page, unless its transparent.

    thanks

bit pricey for what i want. looks like a slick stats program though.

i tried awstats before too, but found it created far too high load on the server.

      any others?

            arrrgh.

Something better that doesn't create such huge log files?

Urchin or awstats but they consume all the cpu when they update.

Urchin, Webalizer, and Awstats are the best ones. However if your server is ill equipped (RAM/CPU) then you're still fukced.

yeah i would consider a desktop one, if it would cut back on the load on the server. as long as the log files didnt become too huge.
we've got slow connections here in australia and download limits.

i was looking at that one. Does it create big load with heavy traffic.
                                i've tried webalizer and awstats.
webalizer and awstats kept creating a lot of load when they ran.

I definately recommend awstats, 600k hits per day is nothing, it should run fine, either it's setup wrong or your hardware needs juicing

You're completely missing the point. It simply doesn't work very well. There have been numerous changes, especially in the search arena, since the last update that mean it's nowhere near as effective as other programs unless you have the ability and time to update it yourself. Awstats whips its ass these days.

Ok here's my take on it.

First off if your stats program is overloading your machine ... time for an upgrade? Or possibly even a clean out. Soooo many people have log files and stuff on thier servers that should be removed.

root mailbox for example. Does anybody really check the root mail? NO Well some do. I have root mail emailed to me all the time because it holds useful information like hack attempts.

800meg log files will run a lot of resources on the machine regardless of what stats program you use.

Everybody has different traffic and you really need a server admin to figure out whats the best stats for you and how often it should run depending on YOUR server and traffic.

Asking on this board is going to get you opinions based on everybody elses traffic and server.

If your with a hosting company that provides good support ask them the best way to deal with this problem and what they recommend.

If not hit me up I'll give you prices and options on whats best but only after I can completely diagnose the issues.

Something doesn't smell quite right. I get way more than 600K hits a day on some servers and the nightly webalizer run just takes a couple minutes.

Keep in mind there is nothing requiring you to run webalizer on the same machine. You can ship the log files elsewhere (mine get recycled daily) and do the stats elsewhere.
