    Encoding Software

    Hey,

Just got a digital video camera (MiniDV). Image quality and playback on TV's is outstanding. As far as uploading and encoding, what's the best option? Everything is run via firewire, so that's no problem...but as far as actual software goes, what's the best (freeware or something I need to buy). What codecs are most videos encoded in? I tried some cheap software that came with it, and it did 300x220 and looked horrible (800x600 *.avi was 150 megs for 50 seconds worth).

    Any suggestions would be appreciated...

    Thanks,
    Kevin

I use Adobe Premire 6.0 to capture movie from DV to raw file .avi ( 18 minutes full screen = 4 - 5 GB )

            - edit, adjust color level, brightness, add music, logo ... etc.

            - cut the original video to small videos ( 4 minutes each )

            - Finally I use Windows Media Encoder to compress videos to .wmv files.

            Hope this help!

I agree about the Premiere for capture and then I use either my Premiere plugin Realmagic MP4 encoder or Quicktime 6 Pro's MP4 encoder.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...
