Actually almost complete ripoff.
Usually webmasters does not have any ways to verify sponsor stats. So, most need to trust that they will get paid honestly. Do you trust? Maybe, as you might not have any changes to verify stats ... you wish to trust as me.
Now I have witnessed something interesting.
I made agreement with one sponsor. I will send traffic, they will pay me for every minute that my traffic generates for their dialer / voice call system - or in normal case they will pay...
So, i watched sponsor stats as minutes increased every day - I was thinking not bad at all... almost worth of $5.000...
But there is one rare thing:
This was typically webmaster / sponsor relationship - expect that in this case the lines came from me - I made the lease agreement with carriers - so, I get reports from carriers... and actually I pay this sponsor for using their content & backend. And only traffic on these lines is from me as we agreed that no other sources allowed there because of cheaters / Im not willing to lose those lines. Funny. Or not so funny...
They forgot one important & revealing thing: The lines came from me, I will see the real payout stats from carriers & I will pay for them. Their stats just showed what they whould pay for me in "normal case" - what they will pay for "normal" webmaster. They forget to switch off the shaving.
Real payout for that particular month was over $15.000. Is there some difference?!?
...as I guess this practise is not so rare in this industry... So, I have been ripped off four years now... But still here and counting !!! Just watch your back.
