well besides having to chase down pedophiles and warez sites all the time.

i think unless you strictly deal with the hosting biz 24/7 and know how to stay one step ahead of the idiots, its not gonna be worth your time most important its staying ahead of the idiots

I"m a senior engineer for prohosters so dealing with boxes and the idiot that go on them is an everyday occurance. Whats the best methods for revenue though popups or banners? Just looking into some ideas. Being backed by a hosting company can do wonders.

          Freehosting profits are dead...
It is not what it was 2 years or even 1 year ago.

Your chances of losing money are about 99.9%

Oh fuck off all you whiners, Freehosts are the only way to go You should go bannerless, popupless, and I would think about giving the webmaster thier own 404 pages so that they don't have any traffic leaks You also need to offer domain hosting, Full FTP, PHP, MySQL, SSH/Telnet access, and full stat's. Yep that would pretty much cover it, you can sell the emails to other freehosts so that they can spam to your webmasters to make your $$$'s. Oh did I foget free content, and a truely great TGP submitter program so that they can eat up some serious traffic ?? That should do it, your on your way to being the most popular freehost out there !!!

The main reason people go for paid hosting is to run their scripts with e.g. php and mysql and also to get rid of banners.

My website runs a traffic trading script for webmasters so there's no need for php. so if you go ahead with your freehost and we partner up, you'd have an edge over your competition.

Going for only a bottom banner would work.

yeah i know you work for prohosters

use small text ads.. popups are a no no
make sure you use borders and tables of different colors so there is no way they can be obscured

the first thing you need to do is contact the major Tgp's
all it takes is one idiot to get you banned.

So you need to setup a good rapport with them

Dont offer bannerless hosting for $20 or other things that will cost you money in the long run

giving php and such would not be a problem. freebsd offers a jail system and resource restriction isn't to hard to implement. There are lots of methods to use. Anyway this is going to be one hell of a project and hopfully will take off but any ideas and partnerships would be great guys and speed isn't a question everyone knows how fast and reliable the ph network is

One other item to add to your list, you need to allow 5MB movie file uploads
