    Codec shoot-out 2004

We've seen a lot of activity in the codec market in 2004: For one, there are now several H.264 / MPEG-4 AVC (referred to as AVC henceforth) encoders available. With the adoption of AVC as codec for the upcoming high definition DVD formats (be it Blu-ray or HD DVD), as well as its adoption into digital TV standards, I expect to see a lot of movement in that market in the years to come. Microsoft's WMV9 has also been approved for the upcoming high definition DVD formats, and Microsoft is making some inroads into the television business as well, but so far those are proprietary systems and tied to specific geographical areas.

I'm all codec's out. I think WM9 is just a good as any other out there including DIVX. I'll stick to them so I don't have to worry about new codecs that my surfers may npt be able to play.
I've trusted my sites to them for over a decade...

        Webair, bitches.

              Very interesting read.

I see several things happening in the near future concerning video content in our biz:

1.- MPEG 1 will soon become a thing of the past.
2.- Shift towards WMV, better quality and smaller size
3.- Increased awareness about Divx-Xvid, no doubt it will become one the standards to deliver video content.
