Day Trading is just like any other job. You have to put in long hours and do your research to make it worthwhile.Originally posted by irishfury
How is day trading I know a few people that do quite well could someone give me there first hand experience
I have been doing it for almost 4 years and personally I am happy to make 2-3k per week. Serious Day Traders make much more than that and spend way more time then I do.
I spend about 4 hours daily M-F and another 2-3 hours on the weekends doing research. Research is key to making money. With any of the markets you not only have to watch the stock you are buying and selling you also have to watch oil prices and other commodities as they influence all the markets. War, Interest rates and natural disasters also play a large part in the ups and downs of the markets.Comment

I used to do regular interviews with the Swift Trade guys. Man, that's scarry business, though! $100,000 buy-in and it can be gone quicker than quick! Yikes!
The one thing I learned when covering the markets was that nobody knows what they're talking about. I don't like the idea of my money being "bet" on educated guesses. But that's just me . . .SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.Comment

if you're really serious about day trading, and want to make it your lifeblood.
I'd suggest looking into something like TradeStation where you get not only a live data feed but live buy / sell processing which is faster than the usual competitor as well as the ability to trade on all the markets, like the Forex and commodities.
Just my opinion because I've had great service and experience with them. Low contract rates on options trading, comission free FOREX and their stock comission rates are very competitive with a full scale depending on trade type.
but like the above said, its a full time job like any other, your on the market all day, you need to keep charts / graphs and perfomance logs, and then review and improve.
good luck.Comment

I use interactive brokers to, the canadian one. I used to day trade, lost a lot, won a lot, then lost a lot. Then I got tired of it, and realized you really need to have a focused frame of mind for it. So before you even start, try doing something else.Comment
