It could be some sort of strange file association error. Try going into My Computer>Tools>Folder Options and the click on the File Types tab. Find AVI and delete it, then try playing the file again and associating it with whatever program that you want to play your AVIs with. Just a thought. GL

i had a similar problem where when i opened a folder, it would crash... see if you can move the file to your desktop and open it there... it might your .dll files are corrupt- that's what happened to mine

If its crashing when you open a folder then it happening before the player even starts.

Are you using thumbnail previews in the folder settings? Sound like windows is trying to grab a frame for the preview and crashing then?

Try setting all folder views to 'classic' with just details or list not thumbnails.

Also are the avi's XVid codec?

They are avi files that are rendered in vegas. i dont know the codec. But they are uncompressed. Like 13 gigs each. I thought the same thing about windows trying to grab a frame. Problem is, i cant switch teh views before it crashes,
