Why people are still asking this question? When you buy a console, the first thing you want to consider is the games. What good xbox games can you find? Dead or Alive3, Halo, what else? For ps2, you will get tons of great games, FFX, MGS2, Grand Theft Auto3, A-spec 3, just mention a few. So go for PS2, if gaming is really what you want.
The fact that PS2 gaming network isn't working and the XBOX is suppose to be operational in August makes me think I should be buying an XBOX. First of all I will be able to update new scenarios, stats, characters, etc. by downloading off the XBOX network. Now they are also suppose to have huge contests for big money. Imagine the biggest game tournaments of all time right into your own house. Now I hear its a DVD Player, Tivo and and Internet Browser. I don't see PS2 doing this anytime soon. Plus how long has PS2 been out and there gaming network isn't up and running yet! Stick with the money man MR. GATES. Isn't this his concentration now. I heard he isn't even involved in Software development anymore!

The amount of games doesn't matter. Most people buy 1 or 2 games at a time. XBOX has over 150 titles out now. With a lot more coming from companies like EA Sports. You think most people kick down like $5,000 to have all the games that are out now. Doubt it!
150 games? whee, 130 pieces of crap. For both systems, 90% of the stuff out is crap. What matters are the few good games which are out for each system.
I hear X-box has some awesome sports games on it, but i don't like sports games myself. If i wanted to play sports, i would go outside and play sports. Real life has much more precise controls, and has a much better resolution/frame rate ; )
As for PS2, that lineup of games above are the best on the system right now. From what I have seen on the X-box, halo is still the only game they have out worth playing in my opinion.
I would much rather buy a PS2 and the 5 great games out on it now, then the x-box and it's one. Depends on what you like of course, but MGS 2 was such a fun game, i hadn't been that excited about a video game since playing the original quake! GTA3 is fun as hell. Im a final fantasy whore, so that's a given, and Gran Toruismo is always worth it too. Twisted Metal Black looked ok, haven't played it yet, but i didn't care much for the originals...
PS2 - at least 5-6 outstanding games & several hundred other games.
Xbox - 1 (repeat 1) outstanding game, and maybe 1 hundred other titles.
PS2 is alot cheaper to buy and has a much better controller. PS2 also plays DvD's right away, but with the Xbox you need to buy some lame adaptor to play DvD movies.
I know people with both and play with the PS2 alot more. Ask persian kitty and she'll tell you exactly the same thing.

Xbox has some amazing games, halo like you said, nascar heat is amazing, hunters, and Morrowind is probably one of the best games ever made. Xbox is just fucking around now, wait until they unlease their "Live" program, all the gaming companies will run to the xbox as fast as possible...
Bill Gates is the fucking man, he won't let the xbox fail ever, he is to smart for that. If anyone can over take sony, it's him...
xbox owners keep saying the xbox is better cause things in the future it will kick ass for the system.
Fuck it, buy the PS2 now cause it has alot more games and the top-notch Ps2 games are really fun.
In the 2+ years from now it will take the xbox to have all latest & great games you can just buy an xbox at that time, or very likely a PS3 or something else will be around the corner.
People buy the xbox based on things to come, in my opinion its silly cause you can always buy it later. Buy what is better right now. (Ps2)

I totally agree! The games are just like the movies, most of them are just crap. But after several hundred are made, you may find a couple good ones. I am not expecting people to buy all the games (I didn't), but you can easily get 5 the greatest games for PS2 to buy. For xBox, I didn't see any good ones coming.
If you got the budget, go for both and you won't miss anything. They are both $100 cheaper now. If you want only one, let me say it again: go for PS2!
Honestly, this is actually a dumb discussion, no matter which system you buy, you can't go wrong, both ps2 and xbox are great, I personally like xbox and the games i got with it. I'm sure PS2 is amazing as well. They can't really be compared, offering different things.
I feel bad for Nintendo, hahahaha, poor bastards....never even hear the "gamecube" name around....
Gamecube is for kids - its sold way more units and games then the xbox has. They designed it with a handle so 12 year olds could carry to their friends place.
Plus nintendo owns the portable game console market...

Gamecube is an excellent choice for little kids. 99% of their games are intended for kids age 4-12!
I feel sorry for Sega. I remember owning the orginal sega, sega genesis and sega CD. Always thought the system & games were better then Nintendo.
(did own a nintendo as well though)
I mean Sonic the hedgehog was a million times better then Super Mario. Never understood why Nintendo kept pushing that shitty game. I think graphics & game sucked but every Nintendo system has 20 Mario games.
You can compare Sega/Nintendo to VHS & Bata(sp?) the Bata was a better quality but somehow the VHS tookover.
I used to own a 'game gear' - this was years ago and let me tell something.
It blows the gameboy advance out of the water.

R.I.P SEGA
I am sorry, but you can't beat Legends of Zelda, Kid Icarus, Metroid, Super Mario Bros, Castlevania, Goonies.. etc..
Sega sucked back then..
Now they make good games but they lost the console wars.. They were always behind everyone.. They lost. Sorry.
We win.
